The blueprint to success

I have a question for you.

Do you have goals?
Are they clearly defined and specific?
If we speak in 6 months, can you measure your progress in achieving them?
Do you categorise them according to educational, family, personal, financial, physical, and spiritual categories?
Are they written down somewhere?

Let me guess.
You have aspirations to be rich, successful, healthy and happy - we all do.
But you don’t write it down.
You don’t calculate how to get there.
You don’t have a blueprint showing the path to get there.
You’re just coasting, living your life and things aren’t so bad.
Progress happens sometimes, but life has its ups and downs.

I’m here to tell you that you are hindering your success.
I’ve been reading this book, an excellent guide on the importance of goal setting.
It turns out that goal setting is pretty important.

This week I’m writing to you from my vacation in Agadir, Morocco.
They say that 95% of your thoughts are the same every day because of routine and habits.
I like to use vacations to stretch that remaining 5% into a little more.

I’ve been thinking about my goal-setting and previous successes in life and made an incredible discovery.
Take a look at this:

6 years ago during the COVID lockdown, I made a bucket list. It’s a personal list of goals and dreams I wish to complete in life.

Here are some of the goals from that list:

  • Become a doctor
  • Start a blog
  • Solo travel every year until married
  • Do a public speaking event
  • Start a podcast
  • Build an audience
  • Learn to speak Arabic

Here are some things I have accomplished since then:

  1. Accepted into medical school, 12 months away from becoming a doctor
  2. Started a blog → (Alhamdulillah, there over 7,000 of you readers)
  3. Solo travelled every year for 3 years Alhamdulillah
  4. Lead Jummah (Friday prayer) 5 times & completed a public speaking event
  5. Appeared on a podcast
  6. Built a 700K audience across my platforms
  7. I started basic Arabic, but I am still learning.

Wallah this is not a brag - Alhamdulillah for all the goodness Allah has allowed me to have.
I work very hard and I pray harder.

What astonishes me is pretty much everything major that I have achieved was related to goal setting. I tracked my UCAT scores, my medical knowledge, the number of readers, followers, views in my videos, my bank balance, I trained my voice for public speaking (Yes I do voice training).

For each and everything that I succeeded in, I set goals.

I write about them regularly in my journal, I think deeply about how to make them a reality, and then I take action.
I live my life on purpose.

Everything I do has a thought and a reason behind it.
I value my time.
I hate wasting it.

I want you to live a life of fulfilment.
I want you to reach your wildest dreams.
I want you to achieve all of your goals (and more).

You need to set goals, accurately and intentionally and start living on purpose.
Next week I’ll share just how to do that, but in the meantime let me leave you with one question to think about.

What do you want to want?

Medical School Update 🩺

I was on a plane last week and realised that if something went down, I'm actually equipped to respond. I didn't have to though, thankfully. During my flight, there was a mom next to me who was travelling with her kids and one of them was applying to Dentistry, so I ended up giving a whole mentoring session in the plane.

It just put things into perspective for me.
The student was 18, finishing A levels, worried about the future and stuck on what to do.

I on the other hand am 26, nearly a decade older and I still feel like my life is just starting. It got me thinking back to when I was 18 and how much has changed since then. I'm not sure how old you are, but there's so much that can change in a couple of years. Never underestimate how your life can turn around in the space of 5 years.

Not much of a medical school update but sort of related.

I've been stuck in bed every morning lately. It's very out of character for me. This morning I made it up at 6:20 am. And it's Saturday. I was motivated to make it to the mosque at 6:45 am, which helped. But it taught me something. Getting up was the hardest part. I was listening to this podcast episode about phone addictions, and the speaker said the people who are most successful in avoiding scrolling are the ones who have systems in place. Strict rules and regulations about their bad...

Hey friends, I came across an important concept for achieving happiness in a book I'm reading, and I think you need to hear this. Your locus of control is the determining factor of your happiness or unhappiness in life. It can be either internal or external, and it’s where you derive control of your life events from. People with an internal locus of control feel that they are self-directed, in complete control of their lives. They feel strong, confident, and powerful. They are generally...
